The 90-day originality penalty

The short version

A limited-originality flag usually means 90 days without monetization, reduced reach and possibly withheld earnings.

What it means for you

When Meta flags 'unoriginal or repurposed content with limited added value', most accounts lose monetization for 90 days. Posting more unoriginal content during that time can extend it.

While flagged, you may be blocked from joining new programs, and your content stops being recommended to non-followers. Meta may hold earnings you've already accrued. If your appeal succeeds, they may be paid on the next payout. If it's denied, or you do nothing for 90 days, they may not be paid.

Since July 2025 Facebook has also pushed duplicate videos down so the original creator gets the reach, and in March 2026 it said accounts posting mostly unoriginal content may become non-recommendable.

✓ Do

  • If the flag was right, post a solid run of original reels before you appeal.
  • Check Business Suite > Monetization > Policy issues for the exact reason.

✕ Don't

  • Bulk-delete old posts to try to clear the flag. Meta says not to.
  • Keep posting reused clips while flagged.
